I'm delighted to announce the completion of a series of paintings which were specially commissioned for Chris Froome, for his recent birthday. They celebrate his Grand Tour successes and his greatest mountain top stage victories. I worked hard preparing and painting these works from late March through April and early May to get them to Chris in time for his birthday.
Painted in gouache on paper, this painting shows Froomey in each of the winning Grand Tour jerseys, with a backdrop of the Colloseum, Arche de Triomphe and Madrid Square.
Painted in gouache on paper, Simon's painting features Froomey's incredible 80km solo break on stage 19 of the 2018 Giro D'Italia which he launched on the Colle Delle Finestre. His amazing stage victory turned the general classification on it's head, and effectively won him the Giro.
This painting features Simon's depiction of Froomey leading Simon Yates to victory on stage 14 of the 2018 Giro D'Italia on the mighty Monte Zoncolan. The image includes one of the iconic tunnels and the steep switch backs which define the Zoncolan. Gouache on paper.
This painting by Simon celebrates Chris Froome's victory on the iconic Mont Ventoux where he won perhaps his most impressive Tour de France Stage victory on Bastille Day in 2013. A simple design using a limited colour palette to exaggerate the starkness of Mont Ventoux. Gouache on paper.
The last painting of this series celebrates Chris's victory on Cumbre del Sol which secured his victory at the 2017 Vuelta. Gouache on paper.
